The IMDb plugin which is shipped with the newest linux version is broken. It doesn't import any detaily anymore.
So, first, please update your IMDb plugin to the newest one from the repository:
http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/griffith/trunk/lib/plugins/movie/PluginMovieIMDB.py
Replace the file PluginMovieIMDB.py of your installation with that one from the source code repository.

Second there are three ways to add a poster. You can try a different movie plugin. Or you use one of the movie poster download
extensions (MoviePosterDB or Amazon). Or you add a poster image from your hard drive manually. This can be done via the menu or the toolbar button.
