Since DVD's and VHS tapes have a bar code unique to the product, could this be scanned to enter the data for the movie?  I have a :CueCat bar code reader that will read the codes.  I have tried it on CD's and another web site and it provided the cover art and all the info on the CD.  Also there is a Linux program called Alexandria Book Collection Manager and it will input the book data by your scanning the ISBN bar code.

I think that this would be a great addition to Griffith.

A modified :CueCat can be purchased on E-bay for around $10US.

The first question that comes to mind is:
Is there a free access internet database that would make the link between the barcode of a DVD and the film data it is related to ?

The Amazon plugin supports the search by EAN/UPC.
Simply put the number into the title or original title field.

I looked a bit around in the internet to find some information about the cuecat scanners.
It seems to me that it should be simple to add the support for the scanners.
I doesn't have such a piece of hardware but I think I can add the features with your help.

Is it right, that the output of the scanner is written to the text field which has the focus currently?
If so please send me an example of the original encoded output.
