Situation: I have a large external HDD for keepng movies. It would be great, if Griffith would be able to detect new movies and add them to my movie library.

The solution could be a new feature, which would scan selected directory(ies) and index all files if they match by extension (.mpg, .vob etc) and keep file path as unique key for that movie (for skipping in future searches, playing movie, deleting it etc.).
Next step: if meta information is unavailable,  Griffith could try to extract movie name from file name (replace .-_ into spaces, phrase tags like [divix] dvdrip as media type, [En] -ru- .lt. as language (adjustable by user) and any other fun Smiley ). Then try tu search web for movie detailed info and with end user supervision add it to database.

So the ideal action plan would be: l connect my HDD, select Edit -> Add from directory, Griffith finds new files and checks for deleted, I confirm and successfully have an almost automated update Smiley

I've found suggestion to use trailer fileld, but i don't think that manual management is the answer.

Thank You,

Lukas

just wanted to inform about the open source MediaInfo project, that provides automatically generated details about media files, like resolution.
So it could be used to generate input to the database.

It's added to the todo list but no developer has started the implementation. Sorry.

Had the same problem. I use griffith to sort my TV Recordings (AVI - Files on HDD). I wrote a very simple Python program which generates a CSV which includes the movie title (from the filename) and the Save-Path (for merging it to the Trailer-Field)

The only bad thing is, that there is no opportunity to do a Batch-Web-Reading for all movies, so i had to click on all Movies and fetch the information "manually" from the Web
