Hi all,
I was pretty keen on seeing Griffith after the first installation with very advanced features. After trying to insert my collection  I pretty soon got frustrated - no 'popular' movie was found when trying to fetch the information from the web. When trying to get support I've not seen anyone in IRC, the forum is also full of people asking for support - unresolved.

I've also seen on the webpage that a new version is out, let's try:
for Ubuntu download 0.9.9.1 and what now - how to install?
for Gentoo the latest (unstable ~x86) is the same version as ubuntu marks as stable but no 0.9.9.1 - what now?

I really liked seeing Griffith - but...  It just does not work as expected - any help?

thanks for providing as much information as possible (including --debug output, trying trunk version, etc.). Now it will be easy to fix...

When trying to get support I've not seen anyone in IRC
No more eating dinner after returning from work (someone could leave the channel after 30 minutes without giving me possibility to know something more about "Ping?" problem!). Noted.

the forum is also full of people asking for support - unresolved.
same on wiki.griffith.cc, there are so many people willing to contribute documentation, why am I blocking them? I must be evil...

Yeah! Upstream author should know everything about packaging stuff for RPM based (and all other) distros... and he definitely should own a Windows - how else will he be able to fix my system related problems? Oh, and he should learn all languages that his app. is translated to (if there's a translation - one can ask questions in that language in private mails - that's a basic rule!) Also, there's no need to search for similar problems on forum or wiki, upstreams always have plenty of time to guide users how to use their app. - it's their fault it's not intuitive in the first place! (and "but I gave you this app. for free..." is not an excuse!)

Agreed.

I really liked seeing Griffith - but...  It just does not work as expected - any help?

sarcasm mode off

sorry redcode. If Mike would not contribute his time to help others on this forum (and would stop fixing bugs they reported) I'd probably not release even 0.10-alpha by now as I'd have to spend all my free time (weekends only, I cannot work on Griffith at work) to respond to mails/posts (BTW, 0.10 should be dedicated to a guy who donated money 2 months ago - seriously, including Googls ads, we will (most probably) not have to pay domain/hosting fees this year from our own pockets)

What kind of problems are you/they having? What popular movie you were unable to find, what service did you use for searching?

I've also seen on the webpage that a new version is out, let's try:

I think you can doubleclick on dep packages, other way would be google for "how to install ubuntu dep" the first link gives you the answer.

for Gentoo the latest (unstable ~x86) is the same version as ubuntu marks as stable but no 0.9.9.1 - what now?

I really liked seeing Griffith - but...  It just does not work as expected - any help?

Please be more precise what doesn't work. Mind reading is a tricky and error prone business.

If you are using Ubuntu or any Debian distro then there is nothing to compile as Debian have a DEB package http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/griffith/download for griffith 0.9.9-1.

Uninstall Griffith, don't worry about your database it will be kept. Using Terminal enter sudo apt-get remove griffith

Once removed, close terminal and download the package above. Click on one of the download links, I used ftp.uk.debian.org/debian. You will  be asked whether you want to open it with your package managed, definitely do this.

Once downloaded Synaptic will run and warn you that an earlier version exists in the Ubuntu repositories. Ignore (there have been no bugs reported in Ubuntu with this version of Griffith) and it will install.

It really can't be any more simple!  Wink

Run Griffith, it will open your database and it will now correctly get IMDB details for your movie.

Simple, brilliant, it must be Linux!
