Hi,
I just downloaded Griffith 0.9.10 and I think it's a great program. However, I'm missing a posibility to locate my movies, I mean: where did I store them ? I would like to suggest to add another column in the main screen, next to the rating-column, called "storage" I would like to have the possibility to put any information i.e. 01-23 or A-2-108 in there. This would give me the possibility to retrieve my movies.
Thanks a lot !

I also think this is a good idea.
I tried doing it via the "collection" tag, but its difficult because you have to do it one by one so it takes a long time. Maybe something where I can choose a collection and then I have a list of all my movies on the left and I can drag'n'drop the ones I want into the right pane and they are added to the collection...

That are two wishes.
@POX: What do you think about a "storage" column ?
The second wish (drag'n'drop) needs a bit more time for development. I don't know if some of us have enough time for it. Maybe there are some other python developers out there who can provide patches.

"location" field is already in TODO file, there's also a blueprint which is assigned to 0.11 milestonePS anyone volunteers to move some wishes from this forum to blueprints? (it will be easier to track them in launchpad, IMO)

Today I took the liberty of creating a couple of new Blueprints.

thanks, I wasn't even aware of some. Few are approved already (2 or 3 with 0.11 milestone)

I'm new to Griffith and have just started playing about with it. And I'm very seriously considering converting my collection (500+ movies and growing) to Griffith. I couldn't find where to put the disc location info at so I came to the forums to see if I missed anything. A quick search for "location" led me here.
The blueprint for this feature request says: "location of the DVD (room/box/case/etc) - will probably replace "Number" field".
I just came here to say that I don't think it's ideal to replace the Number field. It would be best in my opinion to have both a number and location field. The reason why is as follows:
Because I have such a large and constantly growing collection, and storage space is something I don't have a lot of I started using clear colored slim DVD cases to save space and storing the original cases in my parent's basement.
I originally kept my collection in alphabetical order. But even with the thin cases I was having to constantly shuffle discs around to make room for new titles. This probably doesn't sound like much of an inconvenience until the 6th or 7th time you have to move 1/2 of your collection from one shelf to another to make room for ONE disc to fit on a shelf which happens to have no more room on it. Then it starts becoming a real chore.
But the slim DVD cases won't hold the same size inserts as the full sized cases so I began to use MediaMan 2.71 to catalogue my collection numerically. Because MediaMan allowed me to put in an item number AND a location, this enabled me to stop shuffling my collection around because I could just stick the new discs at the end, give it the appropriate item number and location (e.g. Item No. 486, Location: Cabinet 2, Shelf 4).
I would simply print the item number on a small slip of paper and put it in the slim case's spine and place the disc at the end. This meant I could always easily find whatever I wanted to watch quickly and easily by item number, using the location information to keep me from needing to look at more than one shelf for anything. And most importantly it meant never having to shuffle discs around ever again.
This method has worked extremely well for me, but I'm rather displeased with the way development went with MediaMan v3, and have been looking seriously for an alternative. That's how I found Griffith to begin with. I hope this post doesn't come across like a "this is the way some other program does it so Griffith should too!" post. That's not the case.
What I am trying to get across is that the number and location fields can be in conjunction with each other to create a very efficient and convenient method or organizing your collection (at least for me). I know it's a rather long winded and roundabout way of explaining it but just saying "It would be best in my opinion to have both a number and location field", does not explain why both fields would be needed, and from my point of view is a great understatement because my entire collection *depends* on both items numbers and locations.
I certainly don't expect the Griffith dev team to cater to my admittedly unorthodox filing system, but for what it's worth the above is my $0.02 as to why I think it's best to have both a Number and a Location field.
